What are the key responsibilities of a Scrum Product Owner?

The Scrum Product Owner plays a crucial role in Agile teams, serving as the connection between the development team, the stakeholders, and the product itself. This individual is primarily responsible for owning the Product Vision and defining and prioritizing the Product Backlog, ensuring that the team is always working on valuable things. A key skill in this sense is the ability to lead the decomposition of large product features into smaller ones so the product can be developed iteratively and incrementally.

A Product Owner's responsibilities extend to stakeholder management, where they must effectively communicate the product's progress, gather feedback, and adjust the product roadmap accordingly. Unless you are able to have direct access to end users, they are the 'voice of the customer' within the team, making sure user needs and business goals align with the development efforts.
